The
quintessential English Inn is probably the best way to describe this
gem of a Hotel / restaurant in the National Trust village of Lacock. Formerly
a 15th century wool merchants house The Angel has been
a hotel since 1953 and its charms, complete with oak panelling, log fires,
low beams and squeaky floorboards have become internationally famous.
There
are ten bedrooms at The Angel, three superior and seven
standard, all en-suite and furnished lovingly with antiques by the owners
over the years. All have tea/coffee making facilities, direct dial telephones
and televisions. There are in the superior rooms respectively, a four-poster
bed, an enormous Brunel bed and an antique French tented bed.
The restaurant, lit by candlelight in the evenings, has become nationally
famous for its traditionally English style of cooking with lunch served
every day except Mondays.
In the evenings there is a daily changing range of house specialities, including
traditional roast, fish direct from Cornwall together with a full a la carte
menu.
All the puddings, including ice creams are made on the premises and their
own garden provides herbs, vegetables and famously asparagus.
